Entire Property Landscape Renovation in Historic Homeland, Baltimore.
When the homeowner first contacted us, they were seeking a permanent solution for a major site drainage problem. Every time there was a heavy rain, water would collect in the basement. With extensive interior renovations going on, including plans for a finished basement, it was time to take a complete look at the outdated landscape.
Garden Architecture designed a plan that included various outdoor living spaces, walkways and gardens. Patio terraces were designed at two levels to define various settings and to create areas to drain rain runoff towards a linear drain inlet system. The water then flows to an underground rain tank storage area, allowing storm water to infiltrate back into the ground.
Other design elements include a new fence that provides architectural definition of the property; an expansive dining patio covered by an elegant pergola; and a trellis accent above the garage door to create a welcoming arrival. Stone planters, seat walls, a built in gas grill and a wall mounted fountain further enhance the outdoor living areas.
A variety of unusual small trees, flowering shrubs and perennials provide a rich tapestry of foliage textures and flowers, creating visual interest year round. Compact evergreen trees create privacy from neighbors and the back yard alley. The exterior lighting, also design by Garden Architecture, provides a magical ambience for night time entertaining.
